Provo Balloon Fest - July 4th 6:30 AM

On the 4th of July (Tuesday) morning we will watch as maybe 30 balloons rise above Provo in their annual festival. They will be launching between 6:30 and 7:00 AM. The event takes place at Freedom Field, 1100 North Freedom Blvd (200 West) in Provo. I have found it best to take I-15 to Center Street in Provo and go north in the middle of town. You can usually find some fairly close parking spots on the side streets just past the field where the balloons are (you can't miss that). Because of the large crowds, we will NOT meet as a group although we are likely to group up as we see other club members. Camera bags are awkward so use a photo vest or carry the camera around your neck. A tripod generally is not useful. I have found the best shots are after the sun rises above the mountains and the balloons are lit. The balloons hover above the field for several hours as they jockey for position and try to throw an object at a bulls eye on the ground. They also try to pop helium balloons attached to 100 foot strings. There is a parade after the balloons if you are interested. You won't want to miss this field trip! Note, the balloons also launch on Monday (July 3).
