Itinerary:
Friday Feb 2 - sunset (see below for sunset times) in Arches National Park at Balanced Rock or by the Windows section.
Saturday Feb 3 - sunrise at either Dead Horse Point State Park or Mesa Arch (Canyonlands National Park). We will split into 2 groups. We plan to hike to Delicate Arch for sunset. If it is clear, some will probably stay in Arches to shoot star trails.
Sunday Feb 4 - sunrise at the other site you didn't go to on Saturday morning. After that, on your own and head back to Salt Lake City.
Red rocks, blue skies and white snow provide the scenic backdrop for the Wasatch Camera Club's winter field trip to Moab, UT on Friday February 2 through Sunday February 4. This is one of the best times to visit this scenic area. The crowds have disappeared, the blistering heat is gone, sunrise is at a decent hour and hotel rates are extremely reasonable ($30-$35/night). Enjoy the beautiful scenery in Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park and along the Colorado River.
On the agenda is Delicate Arch, Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park (see pictures below). A 3 mile round trip hike to Delicate Arch is rewarded with the snow-capped LaSal Mountains in the background. Sunset is prime time to view this spectacle. Too much ice and snow could jeopardize the fairly strenuous hike. Some members may want to try to catch sunrise there as the sun rises in the southeast (through the arch). Mesa Arch and Dead Horse Point are sunrise spots. We have to get there early for the best spots.

There are several other photogenic scenes we may try to capture. Balanced Rock in Arches National Park is good at sunset. Landscape Arch is one of the world's longest arches. The many monoliths of Arches also offer some possibilities. Canyonlands has several scenic overlooks and there is a multitude of opportunities along the Colorado River. If we get a clear night we can try shooting star trails.
What to bring? A tripod is a necessity for capturing the longer exposures of sunrise and sunset and star trails. For film I recommend Fuji Velvia and Kodak E100VS. These 2 slide films will bring out the red rock best. For star trails, E100VS is the choice; DON'T use Velvia. A polarizer is helpful as is a warming filter (81A or 81B). A graduated filter (half clear and half gray or another color) can be used when the sky is a lot brighter than the landscape though you generally need a straight horizon.
